Position Summary Manages day-to-day operations for the Library's Information Technology Center (ITC), including the service desk, multimedia lab, computer lab, screening room and copier center. Provides training, instruction and support for multimedia production. Responsible for managing the production component of library digitization initiatives. Manages, hires, schedules and evaluates 20-25 student assistants. Is a member of the Research, Instruction and & Technology Services team.
Essential Functions * Manages day-to-day operations for the Information Technology Center (ITC), including the ITC service desk, multimedia lab, computer lab, screening room and copier center. Collects, analyzes and reports data relating to ITC operations.
* Provides technical support and instruction on multimedia production for students, faculty and staff.
* Manages, hires, schedules and evaluates 20-25 student assistants. Provides and coordinates student assistant training as required. Manages and tracks student assistant payroll for all Technology Services student assistants.


* Responsible for technical oversight, coordination and collaboration for production component of library digitization initiatives including digital objects and descriptive metadata. Trains and supervises student assistants and staff involved in digitization project work. Develops technical documentation relating to digitization project implementations and uses it to ensure quality control of projects.
* Troubleshoots technology problems for patrons. Participates in on-call nights and weekends rotation for emergency technology support to the library. Participates as part of a team that supports a broad range of electronic products, services and hardware throughout the library.
* Participates in outreach, marketing, assessment and other library initiatives. Contributes cooperatively to library-wide initiatives. Participates in departmental, team and library-wide activities. Serves on library and University committees.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree required plus one year related experience. Experience managing digitization production required. Experience developing streaming audio and video applications preferred. Experience working in an academic library preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Division consists of five departments: Acquisitions, Cataloging,

This position oversees all cataloging functions for an ARL-level
library. This position reports directly to the Director of Technical
Services and oversees a department of 4 librarians and 7 FTE staff.
Responsibilities include leadership and management of cataloging in
all formats and languages. The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is a
rapidly changing environment, and its Head of Cataloging is expected
to develop expertise with emerging technologies and lead and/or
participate in innovative library projects.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent; minimum of 3 years
of experience in an academic library or research library with 2 years
of original cataloging experience using an automated cataloging system
and OCLC's WorldCat; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of AACR2
Rev., LCRI, LCCS, LCSH, and MARC21 formats for bibliographic,
holdings, and authority data; minimum 2 years of supervisory
experience; excellent organizational, analytical, and communication
skills; demonstrated time and project management skills; demonstrated
ability to adjust workflow for service needs; proven ability to solve
problems; vision to see the library as a whole and recommend
solutions; reading knowledge of at least one modern European language;
strong commitment to continued personal and professional development.

PREFERRED: Experience with cataloging digital resources; experience
with outsourcing cataloging; working knowledge of metadata standards;
familiarity with Ex Libris Voyager.

ENVIRONMENT: Tulane University is an AAU/Carnegie Research I
institution with its main campus located in picturesque uptown New
Orleans. Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is the university's main
library, an ARL research collection supporting programs in the
humanities, social sciences, and the sciences. Recently, the library
has been reorganizing, building its collections, and developing an
architectural plan for expanded library facilities. During this period
of dynamic change, the library seeks to build its professional staff

THE LIBRARY
Shreve Memorial Library System is one of the largest public library
systems in Louisiana, with twenty-one branches and one bookmobile. The
library system has combined holdings of over 665,000 items and an
annual budget which exceeds $10,500,000. Circulation for 2006 was more
than 1,236,000 (collect of 665,000+ items). The library has a staff of
224 (72.5 FTE). The library implemented a new automated system, SIRSI,

The position is a member of the library senior staff and provides reference service related to continuations and electronic resources as needed.

The Ingalls Library is a nationally recognized art reference library (including image library and museum archives). Founded in 1916, the library contains approximately 333,000 titles, including journals, 87,000 auction catalogues, and 22,000 clipping files. The image library contains approximately 285,000 digital images, and 6,000,000 photographs of works of art and architecture, including individual photographs and microfiche.



Qualifications

Supports Research Services librarians in their work as teachers and liaisons and promotes further development of the liaison program with academic departments and programs. Participates in Research Services programs, including reference desk services, virtual reference programs, library orientations, outreach and teaching opportunities, and professional development activities. This position reports to the Librarian for Lamont Library and is a member of the Lamont Library management team which includes managers for Access Services, Collection Development, Environmental Information Services, Government Information Services, Morse Music and Media, Numeric Data Services and Research Services. With other team members, the Head participates in strategic planning and developing, implementing and assessing collaborative initiatives for the Library's user community. The Head of the Harvard Map Collection will lead and develop digital projects which make the rich resources of the map collection widely available. The Head will lead efforts enhance access to the significant historical collections though the use of geographic information systems and digital imaging technologies. This position is responsible for program development and outreach to the Harvard community of map and spatial data users, including the Institute for Quantitative Social Science, the Center for Geographic Analysis and the Harvard MIT Data Center. The Head oversees the unit’s collaboration with other Harvard partners in developing and supporting the Harvard Geospatial Library.

The Head has curatorial responsibility for America's oldest map collection with over half a million maps and atlases from the 15th century to the present, gazetteers and reference books on the history and science of cartography. The collection includes worldwide coverage of detailed, topographic maps. The Harvard Map Collection maintains hundreds of cartographic CD-ROMs, which consist of digital images, electronic atlases, and geospatial data sets.

Basic Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS required. Advanced training in geography, cartography, or related academic field required. Minimum of 3-5 years of map collection development, research services, and supervisory experience required. Demonstrated record of leadership in evaluating and implementing innovation and change in library services or programs. Demonstrated experience in heading a department and fostering teamwork, collaboration, and creativity within the department.

Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge of cartographic materials, including antiquarian rare maps and current maps for the U.S. and international countries. Knowledge of security policies and procedures and preservation best practices. Demonstrated experience in building effective and collaborative working relationships with other library managers, librarians, staff and other administrators. Dedication to mentoring staff professional development. Knowledge of geographic information systems and digital imaging technologies.

Additional Information:
The Head of Harvard Map Collection and Curator of Maps is responsible for developing unit goals, hiring and supervision of staff, budget preparation and financial management. Leads the assessment of user needs, investigations of innovative reference and teaching and outreach service models, and the development of new programs to meet user needs and changes in the curriculum. Develops the map collection including antiquarian and current printed maps, digitized maps, atlases, globes, etc. and supplements the traditional paper collection with acquisitions of corresponding digital maps and data. Oversees the map exhibit program including curating exhibits and inviting and supervising guest curators. Responsible for assessing and maintaining the preservation and security of the map collection in collaboration with the Preservation and Imaging Services and the Operations departments. Develops and supports a technologically skilled and motivated staff. Liaises with academic departments, centers, and programs to promote the use of the map collection and the department's research and GIS services. Investigates innovative technology to share cartographic resources within and outside of Harvard. Oversees the cataloging of the collection's materials. Responsible for the reference, teaching and outreach for the Harvard Map Collection.

The University of Vermont Libraries seeks a service-oriented, innovative, and energetic librarian for the position of Digital Initiatives Outreach Librarian. The Institute for Museum and Library Services has recently awarded the University of Vermont a 24-month grant to continue development of the Libraries’ digital initiatives.

The Digital Initiatives Outreach Librarian will implement outreach, educational, and assessment efforts for the University of Vermont Libraries’ Center for Digital Initiatives (CDI, http://cdi.uvm.edu). In collaboration with CDI and Special Collections staff, the Digital Initiatives Outreach Librarian will adopt a user-centered approach to working with constituents, including UVM faculty, students and staff; researchers; and the general public.

The Outreach DIL will assess and increase the CDI’s user base, collaborate with appropriate faculty to integrate digital collections into UVM’s curriculum, and encourage campus and community participation in the development of digitization projects. He or she will also advance the grant project’s goal of developing collaborative relationships with other institutions.

The University of Vermont (UVM) is home to more than 12,000 undergraduate, graduate, and medical school students and more than 1,250 full- and part-time faculty. UVM is located in the thriving urban center of Burlington in the beautiful Champlain Valley, an area distinguished by spectacular scenery, year-round outdoor recreational opportunities, vibrant music and arts scene, and overall high quality of life. Burlington International Airport offers frequent jet access to major Atlantic and Midwest hubs, and the city of Montreal, Canada, is an easy drive 100 miles/160 km to the northwest.

With a collection size of 1.5 million volumes and an annual acquisitions budget of $5.6 million, the University Libraries consists of Bailey/Howe Library, Dana Medical Library, Cook Chemistry/Physics Library, and two remote storage facilities. The Libraries established the Center for Digital Initiatives, a gateway to digital resources at UVM, with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). A grant from IMLS in 2005-2007 enabled the Libraries to purchase hardware and software, hire a digital librarian, and build the Center’s first digital collections.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Conducts an evaluation of CDI users/usage at the beginning of the grant period, and an overall project evaluation at the conclusion, using tools developed in collaboration with CDI staff;

* Establishes and implements an education outreach plan, engaging the UVM community and local K-12 educators in the use and creation of CDI resources.

* Actively communicates with library liaisons to academic departments about the CDI and its possible applications in the disciplines they cover;

* Publicizes the CDI’s collection development process and plays an active role in encouraging and developing proposals for content creation;

* Responds to digital project proposals submitted by community members, guiding them through the project evaluation and selection process;

* Provides leadership for CDI communications by developing publicity materials, in collaboration with the Assistant to the Dean for External Relations, to inform target audiences and the public at large about CDI news, resources, and project opportunities;

* Organizes a small conference of Vermont cultural heritage stakeholders to explore possibilities for collaborative projects and strategies for establishing statewide standards, resource-sharing, and evaluation;

* With Special Collections’ Manuscript Curator and the Digital Initiatives Librarian, assumes shared responsibility for CDI project management.

The Lyman Maynard Stowe Library at the University of Connecticut Health Center (UCHC) invites applications for an Information and Education Services Librarian position.
