Occupational Summary
The Duke University Archives seeks applicants for a semester-long internship designed to introduce students to work with electronic records. As a part of the Duke University Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (RBMSCL), the University Archives acquires, preserves, and makes accessible University records with permanent historical and research value. The intern will work under the supervision of the Electronic Records Archivist, primarily working on special projects decided in conjunction with their supervisor. Potential projects include assisting with the administration of DukeSpace (http://dukespace.lib.duke.edu); digital preservation; digital media collections; policy, procedure, tools, and documentation development; and records transfers. Responsibilities

Qualifications
It is the expectation that all Duke University Libraries staff members will demonstrate exceptional workplace behaviors in the execution of their specific position responsibilities. EDUCATION:
Required: Enrollment in a graduate archival studies, public history, or information and library science program with a minimum of nine credit hours completed, or enrollment in a related graduate program combined with archival experience or training. Recent graduates of archival education or information and library science programs with archival coursework are welcome to apply.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Familiarity with research in primary sources; strong written communication skills; attention to detail; ability to lift archival boxes (50 lbs.); respect for privacy and confidentiality.

Preferred: Experience with METS and PREMIS. Java programming.
Hiring Working Conditions
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and unpack, shelve and shift large quantities of library materials;
Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dust and mold is possible
Frequent bending, crouching, stooping
Normal office environment

Rate
$ 15.00 /hr.
The position is not eligible for University fringe benefits or moving, housing, or relocation expenses.
Hours and Appointment Term

The internship is a temporary, part-time position available fifteen hours per week between January 2009 and April 2009.

The University of Connecticut, ranked among the top 25 public universities in the nation, seeks nominations and applications for the Director of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center (University Archives and Special Collections), which is part of the University of Connecticut Libraries. The new Dodd Center Director will provide leadership to this flourishing center of intellectual and scholarly activity and public engagement.
The Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, named for the late Senator from Connecticut and developed with the continuing support of Senator Christopher J. Dodd and members of the Dodd family, broke ground in 1993 and was dedicated by President Clinton in 1995. The Dodd Center is supported by the Center Advisory Board consisting of Dodd family members, prominent human rights activists and Connecticut business and political leaders.
The Dodd Research Center encourages education, exploration, and scholarship through its preservation of the University’s unique manuscripts, archives and rare books; through its dynamic programming in the humanities and social sciences; and through its forums for public policy debate, particularly in the area of human rights. Along with archives and special collections, the Dodd Research Center houses the Center for Judaic & Contemporary Jewish Life and the Human Rights Institute. This year the Dodd Research Center received the distinguished service award from the Society of American Archivists for 2008.

The UConn Libraries, which include the Storrs campus libraries, the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, and five regional campus libraries, is a participating member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries, and the Boston Library Consortium.
The Position: Reporting to the Vice-Provost for University Libraries, the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center Director provides leadership to the Dodd Center as it broadens its mission, outreach, and service to the public and scholarly community.
Responsibilities include fund raising, strategic planning, budgeting, staff oversight, public programming, collection development, and research assistance. As a member of the University Libraries’ Leadership Council, the Dodd Center Director participates in library-wide planning, budgeting, and policy development. The incumbent works closely with the Directors of the Human Rights Institute and the Center for Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Life, which are housed in the Dodd Research Center, to ensure that public programs are coordinated and public policy debates are convened.
Qualifications:
· A graduate degree in English, history, library science, or another academic discipline closely related to the collections, programs, and services of the University’s Archives & Special Collections and three to five years of managerial/supervisor/administrative experience OR a bachelor’s degree and eight to ten years of significant and relevant library technical/managerial/supervisory experience.
· Demonstrated technical expertise in archival and special collections functions.
· A record of achievement in fund raising, grant writing and grant management, collection solicitation, and other development activities.
· A strong commitment to the field of human rights.
· A demonstrated commitment to quality service for a diverse clientele that ranges from secondary and undergraduate students to senior faculty to distinguished visiting scholars.
· Sound knowledge of those issues relating to the use of primary resource materials by historians, humanities scholars, and social scientists for research, teaching, and publication.
· Ability to work effectively with a variety of library users, donors, and Library and University staff.
· Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
· Outstanding leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
