The Library at St. Ambrose University is seeking an energetic and service-oriented librarian for Head of Technical Services. Responsibilities include supervising all aspects of technical services, including supervision and training of four full-time staff and several student workers; original cataloging of materials; overseeing the acquisition and processing of library materials; working with the Art Department on digital imaging projects; collection development in assigned areas; acting as liaison with faculty of academic departments; and assumes a prominent role in library-wide planning and budgeting. This is a twelve-month, full-time position in a team environment. Requirements include a MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution; 3-5 years related experience, including supervisory experience; demonstrated ability to do original cataloging; knowledge of and experience with electronic resources; a commitment to a high level of service in an academic environment; excellent oral, written, and organizational skills; a sense of humor, and the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change. The Ottenheimer Library of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR)
seeks a senior-level librarian to lead departments directly involved in the

The successful candidate will develop innovative programs to facilitate

librarians and paraprofessionals; experience with integrated library
systems; proven skills in the application of technology to enhance
effectiveness in technical services operations; experience with assessment
of library services, strategic planning and project management; second
advanced degree; qualifications for appointment at rank of Associate
Professor.

Its materials holdings include: nearly a half million monographs, 11,000
electronic books, access to over 28,000 electronic journals, 3,600 active
periodical subscriptions, over one million microforms and 115+ electronic
databases. The Library's integrated library system is Innovative
Interfaces.

DESCRIPTION
The Technical Services Department of the Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a motivated and collaborative individual to perform original and adaptive cataloging of materials in a wide range of formats, primarily held by the North Carolina Collection. Cataloging is performed using standard cataloging tools: AACR2, revised, LC subject headings, MARC21 formats, and OCLC. Materials also receive local subject headings and are classed using a modified Dewey Decimal Classification scheme. Cataloging duties include work on newly received materials from a range of eras, and retrospective conversion of older pamphlets, monographs, and serials. The North Carolina Collection is a full depository for North Carolina state publications, and the person in this position is the state documents specialist. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Library participates in national programs, including NACO, BIBCO, CONSER, and SACO.
The Wilson Special Collections Library is transitioning to a more unified structure that will affect the delivery of technical services, so flexibility and continual learning will be a part of all positions. POSITION SUMMARY
The Head of Acquisitions is a creative and team-oriented professional
who oversees acquisitions functions for an ARL-level library with an
annual materials budget of approximately $6 million. This positions
reports directly to the library's Director of Technical Services and
is oversees seven paraprofessional staff members. Responsibilities
includes management of serials and monographs acquisitions, ordering
and invoicing for digital resources, processing and tracking fund
expenditures, vendor relations, and staff supervision. Acquisitions is
a key function in the library and this department head works
collaboratively with many other librarians outside the Technical
Services Division including some 20 bibliographers for the general
collections and those purchasing materials for special collections.
The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is a rapidly changing environment
and its Head of Acquisitions is expected to develop expertise with
emerging technologies and lead and/or participate in innovative
library projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum 3 years library acquisitions
experience with increasingly responsible work assignments and
supervisory responsibilities; ability to multitask and manage detail;
strong oral and written communication skills; strong critical thinking
skills; accounting experience; experience with vendor relations;
knowledge of ILS systems and EDI; potential for leadership in a
collaborative setting; productive attitude and enthusiasm for an
innovative and changing environment.
Preferred: Acquisitions experience in a mid-to-large academic or
research library.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning: With the Head of Cataloging and Head of Database Management,
the Head of Acquisitions assists the Director of Technical Services as
a member of the Technical Services Division's management team for
planning and coordination of general technical services work and
special projects.
Oversight of acquisitions functions: Oversees ordering, invoicing, and
receiving for all materials; ensures that orders are placed with
appropriate vendors and materials received in a timely manner; reviews
orders on a rotating schedule; reviews and approves purchasing card
purchases.
Processing ordering and invoicing for electronic databases: Ensures
accurate and efficient processing of orders and invoices for digital
resources and works closely with the Associate Dean, the Digital
Services Department, and the Electronic Management Resources
Department on matters pertaining to licensing and access.
Oversight of budget and funds: Monitors collections budget
expenditures in the library's ILS system (Ex Libris Voyager) and is
responsible for all acquisitions payments and vendor relations, for
budget reconciliation at the University level, and for overseeing the
fiscal year close. Prepares for the next fiscal year by distributing
fund allocations within the ILS as directed.
Vendor relations: Represents the library in communications with
vendors regarding purchases and payments; ensures vendor statements
are promptly reviewed and unpaid invoices are secured, reviewed and
paid; selects vendors through knowledge of trends in acquisitions;
monitors vendor performance and makes recommendations for changes as
necessary.
Staffing: Supervises and reviews acquisitions personnel. Assists in
hiring new personnel in the event of vacancies.
Financial Responsibility: Yes. Oversees expenditures of approximately
$6M annually.
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes.
