HOURS: 30 to 40 hours per week as needed, Monday to Friday, mornings and early afternoons.


Syngenta Crop Protection, a leading global agribusiness, is seeking a document delivery assistant for a temporary assignment at the company’s Greensboro facility. The document-delivery assistant will work with the company’s Information Specialist to meet the information needs of employees and customers. This a temporary assignment that is expected to last from 90 to 180 days.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Obtain and deliver journal articles, government documents, and other publications requested by company employees. Maintain records of all document delivery transactions.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of bibliographic research. Requires basic personal computer skills. Requires effective communication skills, and the ability to evaluate, prioritise, and resolve customers’ service requests.

PREFERRED SKILLS: Practical experience using online journals and online database systems such as DIALOG, MEDLINE, CAS/STN. Knowledge of information sources for the sciences (journals and other publications, indexes, databases, Internet resources). Experience with EndNote, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft FrontPage softwares.

DESCRIPTION
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill University Library seeks a creative, outgoing, and collaborative Social Sciences Librarian to join the Davis Library Reference Department. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to work in an ARL Library and proactively apply innovative solutions for the provision of information resources and services.

The Social Sciences Reference Librarian will share in providing general and specialized reference service at the Davis (Main) Library Reference Desk and via online chat, IM and email, including night and weekend rotations. The person in this position will develop and deliver high quality outreach and instructional services to faculty and students in assigned social sciences disciplines to support the discovery, use, and integration of the library's collections into research and the curriculum. Additionally, the Social Sciences Reference Librarian will also work on web pages, subject guides, and special projects, including collection analysis. The individual in this position will share in the development of the social sciences reference collection.

The Social Sciences Reference Librarian reports to the Head of the Reference Desk Section of the Davis Reference Department. In addition to the Reference Desk section, the Reference Department includes Government Documents, the Maps Collection, Microforms, Electronic Reference Services, GIS services, and a Collection Management section. QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
ALA-accredited MLS. Experience providing effective reference service to a diverse community of users. Strong commitment to public service and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of available statistical data for the social sciences. Experience with HTML and the creation of web pages

Preferred:

of 1893. The Library is home to a rich, world-class collection of more than
250,000 volumes in the following subject areas: anthropology, archaeology,
biological systematics, botany, environmental and evolutionary biology,
geology, museology, and zoology. Although borrowing privileges are reserved
for Museum staff and associates, the Library's collections are available for
public use. Since 2001, the Library has operated the Ex Libris ALEPH 500
integrated library system. At the heart of the ALEPH system is Harlow, the
Library's online catalog, which currently contains about 120,164 records.

In addition to purchasing new materials and receiving donated and exchanged
materials, the Library began a retrospective conversion of approximately
92,000 catalog records in 2006. Converted records represented monographs,
serials, and rare books acquired prior to 1978 and held in the General
Collection, the Rare Book Room, and eight subject-based divisional
libraries. Clean up of the retrospective conversion records continues and
is approximately one half completed.

The Technical Services Librarian is a management level position, reporting
directly to the Director of Library Collections.

Job Duties
------------------------------

Responsibilities include:

- Trains, supervises and evaluates five staff, including two Library
Technical Assistants for Binding/Repair and Acquisitions/Serials, one
cataloger, one rare book cataloger, the museum archivist, and possible
volunteer(s). For this staff, the Technical Services Librarian creates and
implements procedures, adjusts workflows, solves problems, oversees the
implementation of strategic initiatives, and assigns projects as needed.
- Performs copy cataloging of non-standard format materials and original
cataloging of problematic materials using OCLC and the Library's Ex Libris
Aleph 500 system Responsible for both original and copy cataloging of
materials in Eastern European and Russian languages. Responsible for copy
cataloging (when available) for Chinese/Japanese/Korean materials
- Catalogs backlog and problem materials as time permits
- Evaluates exchanged materials (monographs and serials) for inclusion in
the Library's collections
- Coordinates the maintenance of Library of Congress authority records
and serial holdings records in the Library's Aleph 500 system
- Coordinates the implementation, maintenance and operation of the
Library's Ex Libris Aleph 500 system in cooperation with the Museum IT staff
and Ex Libris; installs quarterly service packs for the Library's Aleph
system
- Generates and prepares reports from the Library's Aleph system as
required.
- Maintains and troubleshoots Technical Services electronic resources
(Cataloger's Desktop, ClassificationWeb, OCLC Connexion Client)
- Guides and collaborates with the Museum Archivist and his volunteers
and interns to create and implement an existing strategy to create finding
aids for high priority collections, digitize high priority collections (as
funding permits), and catalog these finding aids
- Guides and collaborates with the Rare Book Cataloger to develop and
implement digitization efforts and public educational programs and
exhibitions featuring the materials in our Rare Book Room
- Under the guidance of the Director of Library Collections, develops and
oversees Technical Services budget on an annual basis; supervises
maintenance of acquisitions fund accounting in the Library's Aleph system
and creates financial reports as needed by other staff; works with the
Administrative Assistant to reconcile fund totals between the Aleph system
and Museum accounts
- Works cooperatively with the Associate Librarian (Reference and
Circulation) and Director on collection development and Library strategy
- Assesses the need for new services and technologies in Technical
Services and in cooperation with appropriate staff, locates available
options and selects the one which best fits the needs of the patrons and the
Library
- Participates in and attends staff development activities, Library team
meetings and Library managerial meetings
- Participates in regularly scheduled meetings of the Academic Affairs
Library Committee.
- Participates in outside initiatives when necessary (Biodiversity
Heritage Library, Laufer Committee meetings, Reading Room/Museum
exhibits/displays)
- Keeps informed of developments in the library field by reading

Qualifications

perform the following duties:

- Cataloging Duties
- Perform copy and some original cataloging of monographs and serials
in WorldCat and in the Library's Ex Libris Aleph 500 system
(using national
and local standards such as AACR2R/RDA, LCSH, MARC standards, and LC
classification schedules). Performs copy and some original cataloging on
monographs and serials in most Western European languages
- Update and maintain authority records for all materials in the Aleph
system, using LC authority records via OCLC Connexion
- Update and maintain holdings records in MARC holdings format for all
materials in the Aleph system
- Retrospective Conversion Duties
- Implement documented procedures to monitor the quality of converted
bibliographic records to ensure compliance with local and
national standards
and with vendor and other contractual requirements
- Search, verify, and edit cataloging copy in the Aleph system and in
WorldCat, making appropriate changes as specified by the shelf
list card in
hand and according to local and national cataloging standards.
Identify and
resolve bibliographic record conflicts. Provide appropriate MARC content

- Identify and resolve problems associated with location, call number,
holdings, and other copy-specific information, in particular those
associated with the loading of records from vendors, bibliographic

*Scope*
The collection development librarian is responsible for developing a
collection development policy that values a balanced collection in all areas
of the curriculum and for all bibliographic and physical formats, including
digital. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and experience to
assess the collection. Working with library faculty and staff, and teaching
faculty, he or she will possess the leadership and management skills to
develop new collection policy and to successfully implement that policy.
This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position and reports directly to
the Library Director. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and
experience.

*Responsibilities *

- Assists the Library Director in overall collection management,
development, and assessment; assumes responsibility for building a current,
balanced collection, especially for general and multidisciplinary curricular
needs.
- Works with Library Faculty to manage and develop the library's
collections;
- Trains Library Faculty on collection management tools and methods;
- Serves as a professional resource for collection assessment and
management issues;
- Works closely with the Library Faculty and the Academic Departments and
Programs to establish and execute ongoing collection review.
- Establishes, monitors, and tracks collection budget of approximately
$500,000. Recommends priorities for the distribution of collection funds.
- Establishes collection management policies and procedures, and oversees
implementation of said policies and procedures in consultation with the
Library Director and the Library Faculty.
- Reviews and analyzes collections.
- Coordinates collection statistics;
- Conducts collection evaluation programs to assess strengths and
weaknesses in all subject areas.
- Keeps current on new collection development and acquisitions
technology. Participates in local, regional and national professional
activities as deemed appropriate.
- Organizes and conducts collection management projects including weeding
and gifts; ensures that written acknowledgements of gifts are promptly
dispatched.
- Establishes, maintains and reviews relationships with vendors and
publishers.
- Establishes systems for review of materials in need of repair,
replacement or withdrawal.
- Serves on reference desk and participates in the library instruction
program, including some nights and weekends.

*Qualifications*

Required:

- ALA-accredited masters degree in library or information science or
foreign equivalent.
- A clear understanding of the disciplines that constitute the liberal
arts as well as demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends,
issues, and best practices in academic library collection development,
scholarly communications, and assessment.
- Two to three years of experience in an academic library performing
collection management and /or acquisitions, with knowledge of trends and
practices in information access, acquisitions and collection development.
- Experience with staff-side functions of a major integrated library
system.
- Experience with budgeting in a library setting.
- Highly proficient with Excel, Access or other spreadsheet software
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the
ability to display imagination, ingenuity, and humor in solving problems and
working with people.
- Successful completion of an employment and criminal history background
check required.

Preferred:

- Experience with electronic management systems like Serials Solutions,
Ebsco A to Z, etc. and the use of their report functions to gather and
distribute use statistics, report coverage overlap, etc.
- Experience with analysis of patron use of library collections,
including all physical and bibliographic formats
- Experience with evaluation and withdrawal of traditional print
materials
- Experience with or knowledge of licensing electronic resources and
copyright issues.
- Experience working with library material vendors
- Experience with III Millennium
- Professional experience in a liberal arts environment

Williams College Libraries seeks candidates for the position of Head of
Collection Development and Acquisitions. This position offers a unique
opportunity to manage a $2.5 million materials budget, to lead
collection initiatives and establish acquisitions policies at a
top-ranked liberal arts college. Coordinating the work of 11 subject
liaisons, this person will have an exciting role in developing the
future of library collections as the college begins the construction of
a new integrated library and technology center to open in 2011. The Head
of Collection Development and Acquisitions reports to the College
Librarian. This position is a full-time, 12-month administrative staff
position.

Responsibilities:
Prepares and justifies library budgets in conjunction with the College
Librarian. Makes allocations and tracks expenditures for all
acquisitions funds. Evaluates vendor performance and negotiates with
vendors for service fees and discounts. Monitors faculty curricular and
research interests and incorporates changes in the Williams curriculum.
Oversees purchasing priorities. Coordinates review and selection of
electronic resources and chairs the Library's Electronic Resources
Group. Negotiates license terms and pricing for electronic resources and
media materials. Leads the implementation of the Library's Electronic
Resource Management module. Directs the Library's digitization
initiatives. As a Boston Library Consortium collection manager,
represents the Williams College Libraries in frequent meetings with BLC
counterparts. Participates in BLC initiatives including the Cooperative
Collection Development Working Group. Supervises five Acquisitions
support staff.

Requirements:
MLS degree from ALA-accredited library school with 5 years relevant
experience formulating and tracking budgets; collection development
expertise. Ability to work collaboratively with various campus
constituents. Subject expertise in the humanities and/or social sciences
and understanding of the mission of a liberal arts college. Supervisory
and training experience with knowledge of scholarly communication and
library trends in copyright and licensing. Knowledge of the publishing
market, electronic service providers, serials vendors and binding and
preservation practices. Expertise in accounting practices and systems.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience
with online integrated bibliographic systems and bibliographic
utilities. Familiarity with cataloging standards. Review of applications
