Cataloger/Index Librarian Vacancy 2008

The Library and Information Services Department of the Maryland Department of Legislative Services is looking for a catalog/index librarian. The library maintains a public policy and government documents collection of 95,000 volumes and provides reference and research services in a customer oriented environment. Primary responsibilities include original cataloging of library materials, primarily state government documents in various formats, copy cataloging using OCLC, managing state electronic documents, indexing proposed legislation, writing brief weekly summaries of legislation, and maintaining authority files. Requirements: MLS degree, knowledge of and experience using OCLC, AACR2, LCSH, MARC formats, and integrated library systems, preferably Sirsi. Strong communications and interpersonal skills required. Prefer experience or interest in government documents, public policy, and electronic records management. Salary range $38,000 to $56,000 full time with state leave, medical, and retirement benefits.
