DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC SERVICES

Prescott Memorial Library, Louisiana Tech University, seeks qualified
applicants for the position of Director of Academic Services.
Reporting to the Dean of Library Services, this position oversees
Research Services and User Services. Responsibilities include
providing leadership and direction in planning, developing,
implementing, and evaluating divisional operations and services within
a user-centered organization to achieve the library's goals and
objectives. The successful candidate will be one who fosters a team-
oriented work environment and positively motivates professional and
support staff in the provision of effective and innovative quality
service in all public service areas.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and manage library's Academic Services units, which include:
Research Services (Reference, Special Collections, Government
Documents) and User Services (Access services); coordinate and oversee
the Collection Development Committee; provide ongoing assessment and
evaluation of Academic Division services and promote development and
implementation of improved services; communicate the library's
envisioned role in teaching and research to all campus
academic/administrative divisions; foster an atmosphere of
collegiality and collaboration both within library units and with all
other academic divisions on campus; engage in professional
development, research, and service.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited academic institution; at least
5 years professional library experience, either in an
academic/research or large public library setting; significant
supervisory and management experience; substantial research/reference
experience; excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal
and written; demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a team
member and independently and to motivate and promote teamwork among
colleagues; knowledgeable of emerging technologies and their
application in higher education settings; commitment to strong public
service philosophy and knowledge of best practices and current trends
in the provision of information services in an academic environment.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
Second advanced degree; 7-10 years professional academic library
experience; substantial experience in user/access services; equivalent
experience in another profession may be considered as a substitute
(partial or whole) for some qualifications other than that of an ALA-
accredited Master's degree.

Environment:
Louisiana Tech University is a selective admission public university
with 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The main campus is
located in Ruston, a city of 20,600 in the piney hills of North
Louisiana and conveniently located between the two metropolitan areas
of Monroe and Shreveport and two recreational state parks. Ruston is a
lovely small town with a low cost environment. Prescott Memorial
Library has a staff of 29 and is a member of the LOUIS statewide
library consortium. The library houses over 2,000,000 items, is a
regional U.S. government documents depository, and is a member of
SOLINET and OCLC.

Rank/Salary: 12-month tenure track appointment at rank of Assistant
Professor. Competitive benefits package. Salary: $50,000.
