General Purpose
Yale University Library seeks an experienced Electronic Collections Librarian to assume both a leadership and liaison role in working with staff from all areas of the Library to support electronic collections development. The Electronic Collections Librarian will provide support as needed across the library system, including particularly selectors, but also technical services staff in Acquisitions and Cataloging & Metadata Services. This position will report to the Electronic Collections Services Group team leader.

Essential Duties
Selection Coordinator for cross-disciplinary electronic resources:
* Works across the entire Yale University Library (YUL) system, serving as Selector/Collection Unit Coordinator for library electronic resources that cross more than two libraries or subject areas.
* Assists with the appropriate budget requests and expenditure of the CERF (Central Electronic Resources Fund) budget - currently approximately $900,000 and growing.

Key participant in planning, and implementing library wide e-resource policy and selection decision-making:
* Participates on CoDGeR (Committee for Digital General Resources), a cross-library representative group, developing agenda items and finding timely topics with an aim to decision-making.
* Shares responsibility in consensus building and documentation of CoDGeR decisions and policies.
* Leads exploration of overarching issues in the selection and care of electronic resources.
* Develops and/or manages the development of best practices for electronic resources.

Provides the provision of significant services and knowledge in support of electronic resource acquisitions across YUL:
* A key participant and/or leader in understanding and developing the best ways to manage the lifecycle of major interdisciplinary e-journal packages and databases at YUL.
* Monitors trends in emerging technologies and licensing.
* Keeps current with developments, producers, and vendors of electronic products and services.
* Participates on the staff license review, negotiating, and compliance processes, for delivery to the Associate University Librarian (AUL).
* Coordinates authentication and authorization issues for e-resources, communicating as appropriate with vendors, selectors, AUL, and others.
* Participates as appropriate in e-resource trouble shooting activities.
* Leads ERM (Electronic Resources Management system, Verde software) library-wide activities, which is delegated to others and/or coordinated across the YUL system.

Communicates across YUL about electronic resources broad issues:
* Funnels resources and renewal information about shared e-resources to relevant stakeholders as appropriate to ensure appropriate action.
* Provides training and information as needed across the library system, including selectors as well as technical services supporting units such as Acquisitions, CMS.

Works with Electronic Collections Services Group team leader to nurture effective relationships with e-resource suppliers and publishers, for the benefit of the YUL system. Expected to be professionally active and to serve on select Library-wide committees. May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts. May be assigned to work at West Campus location in West Haven, CT.

Qualifications
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program of library and information science; at least two years of experience supporting electronic resource activities. Candidates appointed to the rank of Librarian III must demonstrate at least five years of relevant experience and professional achievements. Appointment to the rank of Librarian IV requires at least eight years of relevant experience and professional achievements. The position requires knowledge of the complex, ever-changing electronic publishing environment and scholarly communications issues. Must have the ability to work with a varied user groups and function effectively in a team environment and in a complex and culturally diverse organization. Excellent oral and written communication and training skills are required. Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills are required. Previous activities in at least some of the following areas are required: using and instructing in the use of information technologies, developing MS Access queries and reports, reviewing and identifying issues with license agreements for electronic resources, using an Integrated Library System and/or an Electronic Resource Management system.

Preferred: Experience supporting an OpenURL resolver, preferably ExLibris SFX, knowledge of scholarly communication industry norms and practices of information technology, experience providing troubleshooting for problem reports, familiarity with project management, skill in "translating" between the world of electronic resources and traditional library formats.

DESCRIPTION
The University of North Carolina seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative librarian to serve as Latin American/Iberian Cataloger. The Latin American/Iberian Cataloger is responsible for original and complex adaptive cataloging of monographs in Spanish, Portuguese, and other languages of the Iberian Peninsula, as well as native Indian languages of Latin America. This individual also consults with colleagues as needed regarding cataloging of Latin American and Iberian materials in other formats and coordinates with others, as appropriate, to resolve complex cataloging situations. The Latin American/Iberian Cataloger supervises one paraprofessional.

The Latin American/Iberian Cataloger works in a collegial environment of cataloging specialists. Cataloging is done using OCLC’s Connexion Client and the library’s Innovative Interfaces local system. The position is in the Original/Adaptive Section of Resource Description & Management and reports to the head of the department. Catalogers at the UNC Libraries contribute national-level cataloging through NACO, BIBCO, and other PCC programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
ALA-accredited MLS. Fluency in written Spanish. Cataloging experience in an academic or research library setting. Working knowledge of online library systems, AACR2R, LCRI, LCSH, MARC21 formats, and authority control. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and flexibly with a wide variety of staff in a rapidly changing environment. Commitment to a high level of service to faculty, staff, and students. Commitment to professional participation in areas relevant to the position.

Description of Position:
The Manager of the Library's Research Support and Education Services (RSES) Unit actively guides and supports the Library's in-person and online educational activities. In addition, the Manager oversees and provides biomedical information research support for UT Southwestern's clinical, research and educational missions.

The RSES unit assists faculty, staff, and students in meeting information needs whenever and wherever necessary to support patient care, research, and education. The RSES Manager works with unit members to develop individual and team skills in order to continuously refine and improve the unit for a dynamic user community. The Ottenheimer Library of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR)
seeks a senior-level librarian to lead departments directly involved in the
acquisition, organization and provision of information resources in all
formats. The Director for Technical Services will provide vision for the
departments of acquisitions/serials, cataloging and information technology.
The successful candidate will develop innovative programs to facilitate
change and promote an environment of continuous improvement.



The Director of Technical Services reports directly to the Dean of the
Library and works closely with other senior leaders who have
responsibilities for Public Services, Administrative Services, and
Archive/Special Collections.



This is a faculty-status, tenure-track position. The successful candidate
will be required to meet the Library's criteria for promotion and tenure,
which include librarianship, service and scholarship/research.



Located in Little Rock, Arkansas' urban center, the University of Arkansas
at Little Rock is a state-supported metropolitan university.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide vision, direction and operational management for all
technical service functions (acquisitions/serials and cataloging.)

Library and University Environment

The Ottenheimer Library's materials budget is close to $2 million annually.
Its materials holdings include: nearly a half million monographs, 11,000
electronic books, access to over 28,000 electronic journals, 3,600 active
periodical subscriptions, over one million microforms and 115+ electronic

Reporting to the Associate Librarian for Research, Teaching, and Learning for Harvard College Library, the Librarian of Lamont Library is responsible for approximately 45 staff, including 20 professional staff, and leads a management team consisting of managers for Access Services, Collection Development, Government Information Services, Environmental Information Services, Maps and GIS, Morse Music and Media, Numeric Data Services, and Research Services. The Librarian supports and encourages user-focused innovation in the Lamont organization’s education, research, outreach, and collection development efforts, and fosters a collaborative, team-based environment. This leader supports a well-established and successful liaison program and promotes the use of emerging technologies in the work of the staff. The Librarian cultivates collaborative initiatives among the Lamont, Fung, and Quad libraries, other Harvard libraries, and Faculty of Arts and Sciences academic departments and programs such as Institute for Quantitative Social Science and the Center for Geographic Analysis.

The Librarian oversees a strategic planning process for Lamont, actively tracks developments in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and in Harvard College, and fosters an environment of assessment and planning: develops unit goals; prepares budgets; manages finances; leads the development of Lamont Library’s collections and new programs to reflect changes in the curriculum and to meet changing user needs; works closely with HCL’s Head of Research and Learning Technologies to integrate innovative uses of technology in Lamont’s teaching, research and outreach services; works collaboratively with heads of other HCL libraries and research services units and with the Research, Education, and Outreach Committee to provide integrated HCL-wide support for interdisciplinary teaching and learning; develops programs supporting graduate and undergraduate research, teaching, and learning experiences; participates in strategic planning and identifies priorities for program and staff development; promotes the development, delivery and assessment of user services and programs; serves on Library committees and sits as a member of the HCL’s Senior Management Council; and promotes Lamont Library initiatives within Harvard at national and regional conferences.

Lamont Library supports the undergraduate experience and faculty and graduate-student research and teaching in an innovative environment shaped by user needs. Research-level collections include Environmental Science and Public Policy Archives; international and U.S. government documents, maps, and geospatial data; Morse Music and Media; and social science data. The Library also holds a significant reserves collection and a general collection which support the curriculum and includes the Farnsworth Room with an eclectic leisure reading collection. Lamont is a hub for undergraduates with its Café, Research Services Programs, and newly remodeled study spaces. Lamont supports research and teaching through the librarian liaison and research contacts program. Its librarians participate in General Education, Expository Writing, Freshman Seminars, Junior Tutorials and many other undergraduate programs in addition to supporting the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
ALA-accredited MLS required. Minimum of 10 years experience in academic libraries required. position will report to the Assistant Director for Collections and

The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library seeks a creative, dynamic librarian
to serve as the Music and Media specialist within the Reference
Services department. This librarian plays a key role in the library's
efforts to rebuild its world-class music collections, which were
heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Music and Media Reference Librarian is a
creative professional who participates in recovery tasks, including
the reintegration of restored music materials into our collections and
the replacement of items unable to be restored. The librarian develops
new music and media collections in both digital and print formats;
acts as bibliographer and liaison to the Music Department; and works
closely with a full-time Media Specialist who oversees the day-to-day
running of the library's Music & Media facility. He or she develops a
dynamic vision for the library's music and media collections,
following national trends, current research, and the latest practices
in the field. Reporting to the Director of Public Services, the Music
and Media Reference Librarian shares reference duties with other
librarians at a central Reference and Information Desk including some
evening and weekend duty; and participates in the library's
instruction program.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA accredited MLS; degree or significant background in
music; knowledge of music literature as evidenced by course work or
experience; 2 or more years experience in reference and instruction in
an academic library; knowledge of trends in music and media
librarianship including emerging digital audio formats; familiarity
with copyright, licensing and preservation issues; potential for

POSITION SUMMARY
The Head of Acquisitions is a creative and team-oriented professional
who oversees acquisitions functions for an ARL-level library with an
annual materials budget of approximately $6 million. This positions
reports directly to the library's Director of Technical Services and
is oversees seven paraprofessional staff members. Responsibilities
includes management of serials and monographs acquisitions, ordering
and invoicing for digital resources, processing and tracking fund
expenditures, vendor relations, and staff supervision. Acquisitions is
a key function in the library and this department head works
collaboratively with many other librarians outside the Technical
Services Division including some 20 bibliographers for the general
collections and those purchasing materials for special collections.
The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is a rapidly changing environment
and its Head of Acquisitions is expected to develop expertise with
emerging technologies and lead and/or participate in innovative
library projects.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum 3 years library acquisitions
experience with increasingly responsible work assignments and
supervisory responsibilities; ability to multitask and manage detail;
strong oral and written communication skills; strong critical thinking
skills; accounting experience; experience with vendor relations;
knowledge of ILS systems and EDI; potential for leadership in a

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning: With the Head of Cataloging and Head of Database Management,
the Head of Acquisitions assists the Director of Technical Services as
a member of the Technical Services Division's management team for
planning and coordination of general technical services work and
special projects.

Oversight of acquisitions functions: Oversees ordering, invoicing, and
receiving for all materials; ensures that orders are placed with
appropriate vendors and materials received in a timely manner; reviews
orders on a rotating schedule; reviews and approves purchasing card
purchases.

Processing ordering and invoicing for electronic databases: Ensures
accurate and efficient processing of orders and invoices for digital
resources and works closely with the Associate Dean, the Digital
Services Department, and the Electronic Management Resources
Department on matters pertaining to licensing and access.

Oversight of budget and funds: Monitors collections budget
expenditures in the library's ILS system (Ex Libris Voyager) and is
responsible for all acquisitions payments and vendor relations, for
budget reconciliation at the University level, and for overseeing the
fiscal year close. Prepares for the next fiscal year by distributing
fund allocations within the ILS as directed.

Vendor relations: Represents the library in communications with
vendors regarding purchases and payments; ensures vendor statements
are promptly reviewed and unpaid invoices are secured, reviewed and
paid; selects vendors through knowledge of trends in acquisitions;
monitors vendor performance and makes recommendations for changes as
necessary.

Staffing: Supervises and reviews acquisitions personnel. Assists in
hiring new personnel in the event of vacancies.

Financial Responsibility: Yes. Oversees expenditures of approximately
$6M annually.

Supervisory Responsibility: Yes.

Western Washington University Libraries seeks a librarian with flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative, and decisiveness to provide leadership and direction to its Instruction and Research Services Department. This key position is responsible for developing a vision for implementing and assessing the Libraries' instruction and reference services for students, faculty and staff in support of their research, teaching and learning. This person will enhance a well-established and successful academic department liaison program, incorporate best practices into instruction and reference services, and promote the use of emerging technologies. The successful candidate must be an accomplished leader, skilled in managing change, and flexible in response to user expectations.
Responsibilities
1. Develops, implements, and assesses new ideas and innovations for Instruction and Research Services
2. Coordinates and assesses the Libraries' instruction and reference services, including the academic department liaison program
3. Develops policies and procedures for Instruction and Research Services
4. Supervises ten faculty librarians, three reference specialists, and one office assistant
5. Promotes staff development and advances the growth of librarians as teachers
6. Collaborates with other library departments and the University community
7. Provides reference service and teaches as part of the instruction program
8. Coordinates the selection of materials for the reference collection

Required Qualifications:
1. An MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program
2. 5 years experience, of which at least three are in increasingly responsible, substantive positions relating to reference and instruction in an academic or research library
3. Substantive experience in management or supervision in an academic or research library
4. Evidence of outstanding teaching
5. Evidence of the creation, delivery, and assessment of innovative user-centered services
6. Demonstrated skills in leadership and interpersonal communication
7. Ongoing publication and service record suitable for appointment at the associate professor rank

This is a full-time tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor. The candidate's record must show sufficient professional accomplishments to warrant the terms of this appointment. The position reports directly to the Dean of Libraries. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit applications by November10th, 2008. Dodd Research Center (University Archives and Special Collections), which is part of the University of Connecticut Libraries. The new Dodd Center Director will provide leadership to this flourishing center of intellectual and scholarly activity and public engagement.
The Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, named for the late Senator from Connecticut and developed with the continuing support of Senator Christopher J. Dodd and members of the Dodd family, broke ground in 1993 and was dedicated by President Clinton in 1995. The Dodd Center is supported by the Center Advisory Board consisting of Dodd family members, prominent human rights activists and Connecticut business and political leaders.
The Dodd Research Center encourages education, exploration, and scholarship through its preservation of the University’s unique manuscripts, archives and rare books; through its dynamic programming in the humanities and social sciences; and through its forums for public policy debate, particularly in the area of human rights. Along with archives and special collections, the Dodd Research Center houses the Center for Judaic & Contemporary Jewish Life and the Human Rights Institute. This year the Dodd Research Center received the distinguished service award from the Society of American Archivists for 2008.

The UConn Libraries, which include the Storrs campus libraries, the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, and five regional campus libraries, is a participating member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries, and the Boston Library Consortium.
The Position: Reporting to the Vice-Provost for University Libraries, the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center Director provides leadership to the Dodd Center as it broadens its mission, outreach, and service to the public and scholarly community.
Responsibilities include fund raising, strategic planning, budgeting, staff oversight, public programming, collection development, and research assistance. As a member of the University Libraries’ Leadership Council, the Dodd Center Director participates in library-wide planning, budgeting, and policy development. The incumbent works closely with the Directors of the Human Rights Institute and the Center for Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Life, which are housed in the Dodd Research Center, to ensure that public programs are coordinated and public policy debates are convened.
Qualifications:
· A graduate degree in English, history, library science, or another academic discipline closely related to the collections, programs, and services of the University’s Archives & Special Collections and three to five years of managerial/supervisor/administrative experience OR a bachelor’s degree and eight to ten years of significant and relevant library technical/managerial/supervisory experience.
· Demonstrated technical expertise in archival and special collections functions.
· A record of achievement in fund raising, grant writing and grant management, collection solicitation, and other development activities.
· A strong commitment to the field of human rights.
· A demonstrated commitment to quality service for a diverse clientele that ranges from secondary and undergraduate students to senior faculty to distinguished visiting scholars.
· Sound knowledge of those issues relating to the use of primary resource materials by historians, humanities scholars, and social scientists for research, teaching, and publication.
· Ability to work effectively with a variety of library users, donors, and Library and University staff.
· Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
· Outstanding leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Howard-Tilton Memorial Library seeks a knowledgeable and team-oriented
cataloging professional to join the Technical Services Division. The
Division consists of five departments: Acquisitions, Cataloging,
Database Management, Electronic Resources Management and Stacks
Management.

This position oversees all cataloging functions for an ARL-level
library. This position reports directly to the Director of Technical
Services and oversees a department of 4 librarians and 7 FTE staff.
Responsibilities include leadership and management of cataloging in
all formats and languages. The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is a
rapidly changing environment, and its Head of Cataloging is expected
to develop expertise with emerging technologies and lead and/or
participate in innovative library projects.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent; minimum of 3 years
of experience in an academic library or research library with 2 years
of original cataloging experience using an automated cataloging system
and OCLC's WorldCat; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of AACR2
Rev., LCRI, LCCS, LCSH, and MARC21 formats for bibliographic,
holdings, and authority data; minimum 2 years of supervisory
experience; excellent organizational, analytical, and communication
skills; demonstrated time and project management skills; demonstrated
ability to adjust workflow for service needs; proven ability to solve
problems; vision to see the library as a whole and recommend
solutions; reading knowledge of at least one modern European language;
strong commitment to continued personal and professional development.

PREFERRED: Experience with cataloging digital resources; experience
with outsourcing cataloging; working knowledge of metadata standards;
familiarity with Ex Libris Voyager.

ENVIRONMENT: Tulane University is an AAU/Carnegie Research I
institution with its main campus located in picturesque uptown New
Orleans. Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is the university's main
library, an ARL research collection supporting programs in the
humanities, social sciences, and the sciences. Recently, the library
has been reorganizing, building its collections, and developing an
architectural plan for expanded library facilities. During this period
of dynamic change, the library seeks to build its professional staff
by recruiting talented, energetic librarians interested in
participating in the recovery of Tulane and New Orleans.

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Librarians are academic appointees. Librarians do not have
tenure or faculty rank, but in other respects receive the benefits of
faculty members.
