Sims Memorial Library, Southeastern Louisiana University, seeks an
enthusiastic professional for the position of Distance
Learning/Outreach Librarian. Southeastern is located in Hammond, in
close proximity to New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and the Gulf Coast. The
Library is a member of LOUIS, a statewide network of academic
libraries. Southeastern has an enrollment of over 15,000. This is a
12- month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications: A Master's Degree in Library Science (or equivalent)
from an ALA-accredited institution is required. Demonstrated
proficiency with computer applications and integrated library systems,
and knowledge of course management systems like Blackboard are
essential. The candidate is also expected to exhibit familiarity with
library and instruction trends, and have effective oral and written
communication skills and excellent interpersonal and organizational
skills. Professional library experience is required. Preferred
qualifications are an additional Master's Degree and experience with
instruction design, proven instruction skills and/or professional
experience in an academic library reference, and the ability to work
independently and as part of a team.

Specific Responsibilities: Distance Learning/Outreach Librarian
position serves as a member of the Reference team in providing
reference and instruction services to students, faculty, staff and the
local community using print and electronic resources. Reference
service includes traditional reference desk service to patrons within
the library as well as remote reference service to patrons via
telephone, e-mail and digital reference software. Outreach activities
include preparing professional brochures about library services for
marketing purposes. This person plays a leadership role in the
development, planning, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of the
Library's outreach efforts. Reporting directly to the Head of
Reference and Instruction, this position promotes the library and
conducts information sessions at all university sites.
