Continuations Librarian

The Ingalls Library of the Cleveland Museum of Art invites applications from motivated and innovative librarians to provide leadership and expertise for print serials, auction catalogs, electronic resources and related activities. The Continuations Librarian manages a department comprised of two para-professional staff and reports to the Associate Librarian for Technical Services. The department is responsible for the selection, acquisition, licensing, processing, access and ongoing maintenance of print serials, auction catalogs and electronic resources. The Continuations Librarian reviews vendor performance, oversees the annual budget and ensures the quality of continuations control records in the integrated library system (Aleph). The position evaluates binding/preservation needs and plans for future storage and facility needs for continuations and auction catalogs. The position is a member of the library senior staff and provides reference service related to continuations and electronic resources as needed.

The Ingalls Library is a nationally recognized art reference library (including image library and museum archives). Founded in 1916, the library contains approximately 333,000 titles, including journals, 87,000 auction catalogues, and 22,000 clipping files. The image library contains approximately 285,000 digital images, and 6,000,000 photographs of works of art and architecture, including individual photographs and microfiche.



Qualifications

Master's degree from an ALA accredited program; minimum of two to three years related experience and/or training, preferably in a research library, or equivalent combination of education and experience; prior knowledge of acquisitions practices, including copyright, intellectual property and licensing terms/issues in a networked environment; knowledge of link resolver software, electronic resource management, and integrated library systems; working knowledge of at least one European language, preferably Italian, French, German or Dutch; demonstrated skills in management, supervision and training; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; flexibility and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.

Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in art history; project management experience; policy development.
