DESCRIPTION: The Cameron Parish Library offers a unique opportunity
for a qualified, experienced librarian who relishes a challenge. The
largest land area parish in the state of Louisiana, having one of the
smallest populations, Cameron Parish has a library system consisting
of six full-time branches and one part time branch serving the
widespread area. Three of these branches, including the Cameron main
branch, were destroyed by Hurricane Rita, and are in the process of
rebuilding through FEMA grants. One other branch was damaged by
Hurricane Ike and is being repaired.

The successful candidate who seeks to make a real difference will work
with the library's architect and parish, state and federal agencies in
rebuilding these vital facilities and guiding the library through the
recovery period.

The director reports to a six member Board of Control and serves as
secretary for the Board. The director is responsible for all areas of
public library administration, including hiring and supervision of
employees, collection development, facilities management, budgeting,
staff development, and public relations.

REQUIREMENTS: To meet this challenge, the successful candidate will
have a Master of Library and Information Science degree from an
American Library Association accredited program and five years of
previous library experience, with some supervisory experience. State
certification required within one year of employment. Knowledge of
and experience in financial management, budgeting, human resource
management, technology, collection development, public relations and
communication required. Grant writing helpful. Ability to work with
government, educational and community groups essential.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $40,000 - $60,000 range, depending on
qualifications. Excellent retirement, insurance, and vacation/sick
leave/holidays as provided for all Cameron Parish employees. Library
vehicle available for travel within the parish.
