INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS

RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop, implement, promote, and evaluate a program
for integrating library research skills into the university
curriculum. Coordinate, organize, and present classroom-based and
other group library instruction for a wide variety of user groups, in
conjunction with librarians, teaching faculty, and other partners.
Provide support and professional development for other librarians and
staff involved in instruction, including providing workshops on
improving teaching effectiveness, developing instruction tools, and
using instruction equipment. Prepare print and web-based instructional
materials and handouts for general-interest print and electronic
resources and library services. Evaluate library instruction
activities and compile, analyze, and report relevant statistics.
Provide reference services as part of the scheduled desk rotation
including nights and weekends. May participate in Collection
Development activities as a bibliographer or other capacity.
Participate in the work of internal committees and working groups as
required.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS degree; Web design and instructional
technology skills; Proficiency in the use of computer applications for
teaching and learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated teaching ability; ability to work
well as a team leader and team member, as well as independently;
strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work collegially and productively with diverse groups in an
urban academic setting; Ability to adapt to rapidly changing
technologies and environments.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Instruction/reference experience in an
academic library; instructional design background; participant in ACRL
Information Literacy Immersion Program.

SALARY: This is a tenure-track 12-month academic faculty position at
the Assistant Librarian rank. Salary: $ 45,000, plus benefits. The
University of New Orleans, a member of the Louisiana State University
System, is the state's urban research university. Vacation, sick
leave, and holidays; state or optional retirement plans available;
choice of health plan options.
