Government Documents Librarian/Subject Specialist

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Serve as a liaison between the library, GPO and the Federal
Depository Library Program and insure compliance with GPO policies,
procedures, and reporting functions.
* Work with the Resources Department to ensure the accuracy of
bibliographic records.
* Increase the awareness of and promote the use of federal
documents within the library and to the University community.
* Provide general reference assistance, in person, by phone, and
by checking and responding to email reference questions.
* Work night and weekend shifts in rotation.
* Provide specialized research assistance/consultation services in
assigned subject areas.
* Keep abreast of key general reference tools, including both
subscription library databases and freely available web resources.
* Select materials in all formats, and manage the allocations for
assigned subject areas
* Serve as liaison for faculty in those assigned academic departments.
* Create and maintain subject web pages in assigned areas.
* Teach information literacy classes to students and faculty in
assigned subject area(s).
* Provide instruction to freshman-level students in various
disciplines, as needed.

The librarian is also expected to participate in and contribute to the
work of internal committees and working groups as required, and to
meet the library's requirements for promotion and tenure.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in
library science; demonstrated teaching ability; strong communication
and interpersonal skills; familiarity with information technology and
research tools in an academic library environment, including web-based
instructional technology; ability to work collegially and productively
with diverse groups in an urban academic setting; ability to adapt to
rapidly changing technologies and environments. Preferred: Experience
in working with government documents, reference experience in an
academic library.

SALARY & RANK: This is a tenure-track 12-month academic faculty
position at the Assistant Librarian rank. Salary: $40,000. The
University of New Orleans, a member of the Louisiana State University
system, is the state's urban research university
