ASSISTANT DEAN OF THE LIBRARY
UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA AT MONROE

SUMMARY:
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Library is seeking a dynamic,
energetic, knowledgeable librarian to provide leadership,
organization, and management skills as Assistant Dean of the Library.
This position works closely with the Dean in strategic planning and
top level decision making in all areas of collections, services, and
operations; works collaboratively with all library departments, units,
working groups, task forces, and committees to accomplish goals,
including planning and management of special projects and initiatives;
assists the Dean in all areas of financial and personnel
administration, including budget preparation and management,
recruitment, promotion and tenure; represents library interests
through membership on appropriate committees and by taking leadership
roles in the library and the university, coordinates communication and
outreach efforts, and serves as Acting Dean in the Dean's absence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides broad administrative responsibilities in areas of personnel
administration, library business operations, and general administration.
• Oversees the day-to-day operations of one of the functional areas of
the ULM Library, incident reporting, and statistical gathering and
analysis for required reports of various departments and agencies such
as ACRL and the Institutional Research Office.
• Participates in administration and policy development on a
library-wide basis.
• Assists the Dean with operational, financial and personnel functions.
• Responsible for the following budget functions: monitors the
library's budget including personnel, student workers, supplies,
services, library materials accounts and grants accounts.
• Responsible for the following personnel functions: manages the
overall evaluation process for faculty and staff including annually
setting the calendars, reviewing the process, the forms used, and
meeting with supervisors to get feedback.
• Oversees the promotion and tenure review process for faculty;
provides input to the Dean on recruitment and hiring decisions.
• Oversees reviews and revises library-wide policies, procedures, and
guidelines.
• Participates in institutional effectiveness planning and reporting.
• Serve as the Library's administrative officer in the absence of the
Dean.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• ALA accredited MLS/MLIS;
• Minimum of five years of supervisory experience;
• Budget preparation and planning experience.
• Expertise in relevant software applications, including word
processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated successful experience in supervision and strategic
planning.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
• Demonstrated analytical skills such as critical thinking,
quantitative analysis, time management and computer skills.
• Ten years of progressively responsible library administrative experience
• A record of administration and service.
• Commitments to diversity and open communication.
• Experience in working in two or more functional areas in an academic
library.
• A second masters degree or Ph.D.

SALARY:
This is a 12-month faculty tenure-track position, with a minimum
salary of $ 55,000.
