Librarian

Southwestern Community College, College of the Great Smoky Mountains, located in Sylva, North Carolina, is seeking to fill a full-time librarian position.

The librarian is responsible for providing circulation and reference services, teaching information literacy classes, processing interlibrary loan requests, providing computer lab technical assistance, serving on campus committees, and other duties as assigned. The library staff functions as a team; therefore, the librarian is able to participate in a variety of projects and services. Professional development activities are available and participation is encouraged. This position reports to the library director; the library is supervised by the vice president for Instruction and Student Services.

The Holt Library staff is a close-knit team of two full-time librarians and two part-time assistants who cooperatively operate the facility. Library services are available to SCC students, faculty, staff, and community residents. Some regular evening hours are expected, as is the flexibility to provide coverage as necessary.

Contract and Salary: Full-time, twelve-month, staff position; contract renewable annually. Salary is commensurate with education and experience:

Master's degree: $35,271 - $40,840
Doctorate: $37,923 - $43,492

Required Qualifications: Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution; current relevant professional experience; the ability to work with a diverse population; commitment to public service; and strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the students, faculty, staff, and community.

Preferred Qualifications: Current experience providing reference services using online and print resources in a community college setting; familiarity with NCLIVE research databases; experience teaching information literacy and/or bibliographic instruction in an academic environment; experience with automated library management systems, especially SIRSI WorkFlows/iLink.
