Job Description:
Provide effective leadership to the Research and Instructional Services Department in R. W. Steen Library, which is comprised of six professional librarians. Develops services within the department, including reference desk services, virtual reference programs, library instruction, library orientations, outreach opportunities, and professional development activities. Works collaboratively with departments within the library and other academic departments to provide programs and services that support integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, and develops programs supporting graduate and undergraduate research. Develops and enhances a well-established and successful liaison program. Promotes the use of emerging technologies and incorporates best practices into reference and research services in the print and online environments. Participates in the selection, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of all departmental staff in accordance with library and university policy. Coordinates collection development activities, including analysis of the library's collections. Responsible for assessment of departmental programs and services. Reports to the Associate Director for Library Services.
Professional Requirements or
Special Skills:
ALA-accredited MLS required. Minimum of five years experience in research and instructional services and supervisory experience in an academic environment required. Demonstrated experience in leading a department and fostering teamwork, collaboration, and creativity within the department. A second advanced degree in the sciences field or three to five years experience as a sciences librarian in an academic library is preferred.
