DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Incumbent is responsible for assisting the public with informational and reader's advisory queries, for creating opportunities for education and enrichment both in the Library's facilities and in the community, and for furthering the Library's mission and vision through creative approaches to public service. Responsibilities will evolve constantly but can generally be expected to include reference and reader's advisory service in and out of the Library, programming, public technology classes, outreach, weeding, staff training, system projects, and leadership in the Library and in the community.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: MLS from an ALA accredited program. North Carolina Public Librarian Certification. Successful applicants will possess a comprehensive knowledge of reference resources, strong computer skills, the ability to quickly learn new technologies with or without formal training, leadership skills, the ability to confidently speak in public and to represent the Library in a variety of settings, intellectual curiosity, initiative, and the ability to work as part of a team. An awareness of trends in library service and an ability to contribute fresh approaches to the library's work are also vital.
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week rotating schedule including nights and weekends.
